Live From Antarctica - Graduate Student Alex Mass' Field Blog

As part of the outreach program, graduate student Alex Mass has met with a number of 4th-8th grade classrooms in the Boulder and Denver regional area to discuss concepts in polar science, Antarctic fieldwork, and careers in STEM fields. In addition, skype videoconferencing from Antarctica has enabled Alex to reach out to classrooms from Boulder to New York to Adelaide, Australia, reaching over 200 students thusfar. Students can follow along with photos, video, and educational articles through Mass' fieldblog, The Last Degrees which has been featured on Rocky Mountain PBS and has received over 380,000 hits in the first six weeks of the Antarctic field season. An additional twelve schools have signed up for skype conferencing in January 2014, and Alex will continue to visit classrooms in the Denver regional area upon her return from the Dry Valleys in February 2014.
